Alumni
Remember Counselor Hunt? Hikes past the Haunted Bus? The Hollis Hop? Acting out “The Legend of George Hollis” for hundreds of believing children?
If so, you are among the nearly 3,000 people who once, as teenagers and 20-somethings, devoted their summers to Camp Hollis. You’ll be happy to know that many of those traditions and plenty of new ones continue to thrive at the camp. Have you been back to visit lately? If not, you haven’t seen the new deck off the main building overlooking the lake, the climbing wall, the new path to the beach, and the air-conditioned (!) main building. Stop by sometime. Check into the main office and say hi—you may get a tour of the staff boards and see your younger self smiling from summers gone by.
Alumni are important to Camp Hollis and there are many ways you can help its mission to give all children a summer camp experience. Perhaps you could make a donation to help a family send their child to camp. (Did you know that about 25% of children who attend Hollis do so because of scholarship money Friends of Camp Hollis raises?) You can offer your talents to the director, who is always looking for ways to generate fun and excitement for the new staff. You could encourage a son or daughter (or grandchild!) or family friend to work at the camp. Like you, I’ll bet it’ll be a pivotal experience!
