I am VP of Lending at Oswego County Federal Credit Union. In the Credit Union, it’s all about helping people. Every day, I get to help our members enhance their lives, whether that is through their finances or just putting a smile on their face. I joined the FOCH board because Camp Hollis is an important place in our community. I have attended family events there and my brother was a counselor at camp, so I know that camp is such a good experience for children. I love being able to work with FOCH to help provide that opportunity for all children in Oswego County.

I have been fortunate to be involved with Camp Hollis all my life. I attended the camp as a kid, spending five summers learning new skills (I hit the only homerun of my life at the camp!) and making great friends. Going to camp were some of my happiest times growing up. I worked my way through college as a camp counselor at Hollis and then became its year-round director from 1990 until 2011. Now that I’m retired, I’m happy to still be involved through the Friends of Camp Hollis. I oversee the gardens on the campgrounds and help our Friends group make sure that lots of children can have the happy experiences that I was lucky enough to have as a kid.

I have been teaching high school social studies in the OCSD since 2020, however the roots of my involvement in working with youth stem from Camp Hollis. I loved Camp Hollis from the first week I came as a child. Nature and adventures, games and fun, swimming and campfires, I loved it all. I returned several times as a camper and for 5 consecutive summers as a counselor in various roles. Working at camp revealed my passion for helping children reach their full potential and inspired me to pursue education as a career. I hope to give more children the heartwarming memories and inspiration that I received at Camp Hollis by making sure as many kids can attend as possible

My first experience with Camp Hollis began in 2008, while working towards an elementary education degree at SUNY Oswego. I wanted to follow my passion of working with children, and thought I would try out working at a local summer camp. It was after my first week of camp when I realized how special a place Camp Hollis truly is. I entered the summer as a quiet and shy person, as I left a much more confident and outgoing person. Throughout the summer I found myself dressing up for theme weeks, overcoming my fear and climbing a 6-foot wall, singing songs, performing skits, and jumping in the deep end. I went on to work two more summers as a group activity leader. I later joined Friends of Camp Hollis in hope of helping children in our area attend camp. There is something so rare and special about Camp Hollis, and I’m grateful I have the opportunity to work with FOCH to help provide this experience with the children in our area.

I was hired as a counselor at Camp Hollis in 2013 and gladly spent my summers there until 2017. The positive impact on our local community that camp provides is truly unprecedented. Campers and staff alike gain memories and friendships at camp that cannot be compared to anywhere else in the world. I am truly blessed to have had Camp Hollis be such a big part of my life, and excited to be able to help more people experience its unrivaled ability to help us all learn, grow, and develop.

Born and raised in Oswego County I knew of Camp Hollis; however, I never had the opportunity to attend as a youngster. Most of my career I have been employed in the field of education in elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as colleges and a youth-at-risk institute. Since becoming involved with Camp Hollis as the secretary/administrative assistant ten years ago and as a board member three years ago, I have seen the significant and positive impact it has had on children as campers, counselors, and the young-at-heart. It is my hope that I can be instrumental in helping as many children as possible enjoy the camping experience offered at Camp Hollis.

Joy Knopp
Joy Knopp is a Major Gift officer for SUNY Oswego’s Office of Development and Alumni Engagement. In my current role, I represent the college in its work to develop private funds in support of SUNY Oswego’s mission to educate students and provide the best learning environment possible for them. She and her husband, Mark, lived in Oswego--directly across the road from Camp Hollis for 31 years and loved hearing the campers laughing, singing and enjoying their time at camp. They are the proud parents of four daughters. When she is not working Joy enjoys cooking, baking, reading (preferably non-fiction) and taking walks through the woods to the lake with her family and five grandchildren.

I grew up in Sandy Creek, NY on a small farm. We had two sets of woods and a small stream that ran behind our barn. There was also a very large maple tree in our front yard. The word "boredom" was not in our vocabulary. My sister's and I spent hours playing under that tree, building dams in the stream, and taking long walks in the woods. Growing up as I did I learned to love nature. Those childhood memories were restored when I started attending Senior Camping at Camp Hollis. As I attended the camp I became more involved in its workings. I am now a committee member and my role is to work with the theme each year. I plan and organize the program. I find this to be very rewarding. I have met some amazing presenters and have made many lifelong friends. Senior camping is something I look forward to every year.

I have lived in Oswego my entire life. (A long time) I have been involved in medical care for my community since 1986 as an EMT, Nurse Aide, Home Health Aide, LPN, RN and lastly obtaining my NY State License in Massage Therapy in 2004. I became involved with Camp Hollis in 2014 as a fill-in Camp Nurse. In 2015 I wanted to go on a mission to an orphanage in Bondo, Kenya. To assist in doing so, I took the full-time RN position at Camp Hollis. I raised funds for this trip by working my first summer at Camp Hollis and have been actively involved with Camp Hollis ever since. I love working with the campers and counselors. In 2017 I joined the Friends of Camp Hollis Board. Serving the community is my passion.

I am a Registered Nurse for Oswego City School District . I love working with the children and families of our community. Joining the FOCH board has given me the opportunity to give back to Camp Hollis and our community. Both of my sons have spent many incredible summers at Camp Hollis as both campers and staff members. I am so happy to be a part of this organization that helps provide these experiences and opportunities to the children of Oswego County.

I've worked in Education for over 30 years, starting with Head Start, then Even Start, finally Fulton City Schools and retired in June 2025. All of my 5 children attended Camp Hollis and have fond memories of summers spent there. I believe that our children deserve the best we can offer and am proud to be a member of Friends of Camp Hollis.
